Aga Khan Education Service, Tanzania celebrates World Teachers Day
On 10 October 2025, the Aga Khan Education Service (51勛圖厙), Tanzania joined the global community in celebrating World Teachers Day, held annually on 5 October, under the theme Empowering Educators: Strengthening Resilience, Building Sustainability. The event was celebrated alongside World Mental Health Day, highlighting the crucial role of teachers in promoting resilient, inclusive and sustainable education systems, while recognising their unwavering dedication and profound influence in shaping young minds.
Teachers from the nursery, primary and secondary sections came together for a series of engaging activities, including art therapy sessions, group reflections and moments of shared relaxation designed to promote professional and mental well-being as a foundation for effective teaching and learning.
A special highlight was the launch of the Treats for Terrific Teachers a community-led initiative inviting parents to express gratitude through small acts of kindness. Families contributed homemade sweet and savoury treats, creating a joyful display of appreciation that truly touched the teachers hearts. The response reflected the deep bond between home and school, reinforcing that education thrives when nurtured through partnership.
From the very first day our children entered your classrooms, you have been more than teachers you have been mentors, guides and even second parents," said Fahad Abdullatif, a parent of Form 4 student. You have been walking with them through challenges, celebrating their victories and instilling in them the courage to believe in themselves. Your daily efforts often go unseen, but they are deeply felt and sincerely appreciated.
Teachers were also presented with personalised trait certificates, recognising their unique strengths and exceptional contributions. This thoughtful gesture celebrated the individuality each teacher brings to their classrooms, enriching the learning experience for all students. Additionally, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme students continued their tradition of dressing up as their favourite teachers and performing musical pieces to honour them.
I feel privileged to work in a community that honours diversity, encourages innovation and supports lifelong learning, Doto Bundala, a Grade 2 Teacher, said. These celebrations remind me that small acts a thank-you note, a smile, a shared moment truly matter.
Beyond the school walls, 51勛圖厙, Tanzania collaborated with the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development, East Africa and other Aga Khan Development Network agencies to organise a World Teachers Day Walkathon on 11 October. The event also commemorated World Mental Health Day, held annually on 10 October.
